Causality is the relationship between an event (the cause) and a second event (the effect), where the second event is understood as a consequence of the first. This basic concept is explored visually, with color and space, in Shaun Rabah's work. Each painting is composed of minimalistic layers of color, each a response to its predecessor, in an overall pursuit of beauty and purity of expression. Shaun employs a combustive method of exploring patterns and layers until the desired equilibrium is reached. To truly see one of Shaun's pieces as intended, one must look beyond the surface layer to the numerous sub-layers and textures that together compose the final vision of the artist. In every piece, it is his intention to not only show you the desired outcome of his approach, but to expose the lifecycle of each work from the first knife stroke of its birth to its final manifestation.
