Robert Rea
Robert Rea, born and raised in a small town in Alabama, processes his childhood memories and unforgotten locations through his abstract paintings. He grew up surrounded by red clay fields, pine tree-filled forests, and the rolling foothills at the edge of the Appalachian Mountains. Rea’s childhood home was on a hilltop, which has given him an ever conscious awareness of distant views across fields and farmland. Rea received a Bachelor’s in Art History from Vanderbilt University, and focused his studies on Asian art. He holds other degrees from the University of Alabama and George Washington University. He has periodically studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. In his work he strives to develop honest brushwork, a muted, subtle palette, and spatial relationships. Bob Rea lives and works in Washington DC.
